So this piece was created using ZBrush and a bit 3d Coat, the woman is a simple Poser figure where i did some aditional sculpting in ZBrush, the whole scene is mostly one ZBrush tool droped down on the 2.5D canvas and added just a few parts 2.5D. Smoke and color corrections have been done in Photoshop.
Had a lot of fun working on this picture, hope you enjoy it a little. Comments and crits are very welcome.
Another Domino Lady cover for Moonstone, the story was written by Nancy Holder. Those who know Buffy sure will know her name ;-)…
Needless to say it was much fun to do this piece.
And sorry for not posting anything for such a long time, but either I was to busy or I wasn’t allowed to post things or (and that’s also the case sometimes) I just was to lazy to do so ;-). However here is some new stuff and there will be more the next days and weeks, hope you all had a good time…

Image was done using only Photoshop this time, those who know me know I usually use Painter, but I wanted to test if Photoshop works for me as well. I have to say the control you have over the Photoshop brushes is amazing, still Painter “feels” just more like “real” painting than Photoshop.

Somewhere in an unreal land far away there’s a mysterious place where you’ll be able to summon the mighty seeserpent. Now it’s up to you to find the place, haha. Well it’s a free piece I did during some jobs I still need to finish but I needed a change.
As it seems to become more and more important to the audience to talk about the process of creating a piece than to just enjoy the result, here we go. This is another one I didn’t paint from scratch, instead of sketching I used some 3d apps. So its more a matte painting than a painting and it’s not really a 2d painting. I used Zbrush to create the basic form of the strange rock formations, took it into Vue and where I build and rendered the complete landscape, after that I took it into Photoshop and changed the color the way I wanted it, than took the whole thing into Painter and painted over the whole piece to give it kind of a “painted” look and applied the figures and switched from Painter to Photoshop and forth and back top paint in more and more detail till it looked finished to me :-).
Hope you like anyway, thanks for looking :-)

As it was more 2d work I post it in the 2d section as there is no mixed medium section, but as said the piece include a lot of 3d as well, so if it doesn’t fit in 2d let me know.

I decided to not work on any commissions over Easter to relax a little. What could be better to relax a little from painting than painting, haha. Well I opened a test render I did for a earlier work from me (timemachine) and just wanted to try some brushes in Photoshop, those who know me will know usually paint using Painter. I already did another piece (lost in space) using only photoshop for the painting process and I was extremely amazed by the result I got with some custom made Photoshop brushes. To make a long sentence short, this is my second attempt to use only Photoshop for painting and what shall I say, I like the result a lot, I got again a very nice painterly look. After years using only Painter for painting I’m fascinated by the control I have with the Photoshop brushes, I sure will use Painter in future as well for my digital paintings as there are still some things I can only do in Painter. BUT I definitely will use Photoshop for my digital paintings more and more.

However what you see above is the result of my playing around with Photoshop brushes, I really just wanted to play around a little but finally I had the finished painting you see above. The whole procedure took me the whole Easter Monday minus the time I spent for eating sweets and Easter eggs :-).
Now I would love to know what you think about the piece, do you think Photoshop works for me or should I better go back and use Painter again, I’m really unsure about what to do, so give me your thoughts…

Thank you all so much for taking your time and looking at my stuff

Just a quick painted piece between recent commissions to loosen up a little. First time I didn’t use Painter, this picture was completely painted using Photoshop with some custom made brushes. I’m amazed by the painterly look of this one, never thought Photoshop would work that way for me, I had amazing control over the brushes. Its really hard to say for me as I’m a huge Painter fan, but Photoshop is really great for painting digital as well, even if you strive for a painterly look. The whole procedure only took a few hours, the piece was completely finished during one evening, pretty quick for me, I really forced myself to not go to much into detail and keep it sketchy.
However, I had a lot of fun, let me know what you think...

Hi all,
This one was done for a CD cover, well not originally this one as the title say this is version 2, version one is what the band preferred, if you want to see the other version as well you can have a look on my homepage.
However, this is the very first piece I created entirely 3d, well not really as you can see there is a lot of postwork as well but that’s just some Photoshop texture layers and effects and stuff like that to make it look more interesting. But I did not a single brushstroke on this, everything apart from the skeleton which is Poser was created in Zbrush even Mr. Death’s cowl down to the tiniest gear wheel is Zbrush.
You see I talk a lot about this piece but I’m so happy with Zbrush as it really made 3d working for me. I’m sure there will be more pieces using 3d in future, it was such a lot of fun. Don’t panic I sure don’t quit doing my 2d stuff :-)).

Ok you see I really had a lot of fun with this piece, now I really would love to know what you think…

This image was done for ImagineFX to celebrate Frazetta’s 80th birtday.

I decided to paint a classical fantasy art piece like the ones we are used to see from Mr. Frazetta, I just did it in my style as I just didn’t dare to copy the masters style. A strong hero with some massive axes in his hands, in the background I used some elements Frazetta already used in his art like the birds. I painted a Portrait of Mr. Frazetta in the background to honor him and to show that he is the one who made this picture possible cause without him I probably wouldn’t paint anything today.
I just hope I got a little likeness with the Portrait of Frazetta in the background as I just had a very small picture (taken in the 80’s right after his “come back”) from his website as reference.
Hope you like the picture was a pleasure to paint it.
I don’t know what the old man has to say, maybe he tells a story about their past as they were young and strong, fought together and won several wars. Now grown old realizing that fighting and winning wars didn’t make him feel any better, he’s tired of fighting and he thanks god that he’s still together with his best friend, his trusty horse…
